Hi, I’m Jayson!

I am a student currently pursuing graduate studies in History in a Joint Program between the University of Manitoba and University of Winnipeg.

In addition to my academic pursuits, I have garnered valuable experience through my apprenticeships in the Heavy-Duty Off-Road and Heavy-Duty Truck and Transport Equipment trades. This practical exposure has instilled a pragmatic approach reflected in my academic endeavors which are often based on questions designed to further my own understanding. I am acutely interested in where academic study intersects with the ‘real world’ lived experiences of myself and others.

I live, work, study and play in the Treaty One region of Manitoba. These are the traditional lands of the Anishinaabeg, Ininiwak, Anisininewuk, Dakota Oyate and Dene peoples and the birthplace, and National Homeland of the Métis nation.

I recognize that Canadian history shows repeated patterns of exploitive and damaging behaviors towards Indigenous and other marginalized and vulnerable populations. I observe that many divisions in present society are the result of these practices, and I acknowledge the responsibility of each Canadian, myself included, to commit to building a more equitable society. I accept the original intention of the Treaties “As long as the grass is green and the waters run”.
