Book Launch: For a Better World
I attended the book launch for For a Better World: The Winnipeg General Strike & The Workers’ Revolt, a collection edited by Jim Naylor, Rhonda Hinther and Jim Mochoruk.
This was a critical point in my academic journey, and attending this event was one of several moments that highlighted: “Just because the book has been written, doesn’t mean it’s settled”. Hearing these scholars acknowledge the shortcomings of their work (often through availability of source material), and the changes and evolutions that have happened within the field over the previous generations was a refreshing and enlightening experience.
I’m not sure how many contributors to this volume were present that day, but trying to pick out several that I might recognize among the crowd, and realizing the support being showed to this volume by others scholars I respected was moving.
I have written in other places about some of the other events that this experience influenced.
